A bus carrying Pakistani pilgrims overturned in Iran, killing at the least 28 passengers, Iranian state media report.

The crash occurred on Tuesday evening within the central Iranian province of Yazd and was on account of a faulty braking system, Reuters reported, citing a preliminary police investigation.

One other 23 passengers have been injured, seven of them critically, the province’s disaster administration director informed state TV.

The pilgrims have been on their method to Iraq’s holy metropolis of Karbala to commemorate one of many largest occasions within the Shia calendar.

Some 53 individuals are believed to have been on the bus on the time of the crash, as reported by Pakistan’s Daybreak Information, together with pilgrims from Larkana, Ghotki and cities in Sindh.
